Something in love, sex, or intimacy isn’t working. Let’s figure out what’s actually in the way.

Because you deserve an intimate life that actually feels good. Uplifting. Connected. Joyful.

I can help.

What does sex therapy help with? You’re lying awake at night asking yourself difficult questions about sex, love, and intimacy. Things like, Why are sex and love so hard? I thought there was more to it than this. Or Why do I feel so alone in my relationship?Or maybe you and your partner are asking: We love each other. So why does being together feel so difficult? Or Why do we keep missing each other?Or “We’ve got some really intense attachment issues, and it feels like we’ve hit a wall.”

Something about love, sex, or desire feels off in a way you can’t quite name, and it keeps you up at night. Yet you’ve never dared to say a thing about any of it out loud to another human being. Or if you have, you sense that your friends are sick of hearing you complain. Your partner gets defensive or shut down when you try to talk about it. So you’ve learned to hold it all inside, pretending it’s all fine. It’s not.

Heaven knows you’ve tried figuring it out on your own. You’ve read the books, listened to the podcasts, and gone down the late-night Google and Reddit rabbit holes.

And yet here you are…ready for more. More connection, more desire, more authenticity, more enjoyment. I work with individuals and couples/partners who want more and are ready to do something about it.

For the Self-Aware Person Who Can’t Figure Out Why This Keeps Happening.

Or Who Knows Exactly Why This Keeps Happening, Yet Not What to do Next!

Deep down, you know that there is so much more to you than this pattern.

Maybe you’re high-achieving in every area of your life except this one. You are known to bring it as a professional, a friend, a parent, a family member, and in your relationships. You know you’re smart, yet it’s a struggle to figure this intimacy stuff out. You feel embarrassed by how you shrink, shapeshift, cling, or shut down and wall off in romance.

And you’re exhausted by it all. In your better times, you give love freely, yet rarely feel loved back in the ways you long for. Or others have tried to love you, yet you struggled to let them. You’ve wondered, in raw moments:If I truly loved myself, would I have stayed as long as I did? Or would I have left so quickly?

For the Woman Who is Ready to Reclaim Herself:

You’re someone who has been doing the work: finding her voice, reclaiming herself, piece by piece. Maybe even during perimenopause, which is an initiation in and of itself. The last locked room? Your erotic self, your relational self, that primal, wise part of you that can never be fully silenced. You feel curious, a little afraid, and maybe a touch of excitement about opening that door. Nothing changes if nothing changes. You already know that. That’s why you’re here.

For Couples Who Love Each Other, Yet Miss Each Other:

If you’re here as a couple, you’re probably not in crisis mode — not yet. You’re in the in-between. You still love each other. You both want this to work. But something has gone sideways, and you can feel the resentment creeping in and growing.

Maybe your libidos clash, communication has broken down, or you’ve been carrying a rupture that neither of you knows how to repair. Odds are you’ve never had the tools to do this kind of work together, and you’re finally ready to get them. And honestly? That’s not your fault. Schools would rather teach kids how to square dance than how to communicate healthily. Many families don’t model great relational skills either. Communicating about sex? Forget about it. That’s rarely taught.

No wonder so many partners end up feeling lonely, unseen, and misunderstood in relationships.

Couples work with me is honest, direct, and built on the belief that both of you deserve to be seen and heard. We’re going to figure out what’s getting in the way, including power dynamics (they’re often not addressed in couples therapy) and the reality of gender roles, and discover what’s possible on the other side of all of that.

For Those Struggling With Problematic Sexual Behavior in Silence and Shame:

And if what’s keeping you up at night is something about your own sexual behavior, something you’ve held in silent shame, you’re also in the right place. You might be someone who’s trying to untangle your sexual identity or behaviors, including struggles with “porn addiction” or out-of-control sexual behavior (OCSB). Whatever it is, you can say it and safely work through it here. This is a shame-free zone.

For Those Looking to get the Most Out of Psychedelic Journeys:

Sometimes the most significant breakthroughs don’t happen in a therapy office. Maybe you’ve had a psychedelic experience that cracked something open: profound, disorienting, or both. You caught a glimpse of something major about yourself, your relationships, or your life. You cannot UNsee it. And now you’re back in your regular world trying to figure out what to do with it. Or perhaps you want to explore psychedelic work, and aren’t sure where to start. That’s exactly where I come in.

I offer psychedelic preparation and integration services for people working with altered states outside of therapy. Preparation means we go in intentionally, with clarity about what you’re hoping to access and a container strong enough to hold what comes up. Integration is where the real work happens: making meaning of the experience, metabolizing what surfaced, and actually weaving the insights into your daily life. Because a peak experience that doesn’t change how you show up on a random Tuesday hasn’t done its full job yet.

This work is especially potent for people healing from sexual trauma, exploring desire and embodiment, or seeking clarity in their relational lives.

The Ways I Work With You

Let’s Get You Unstuck

I’m not here to sit back and let you stay stuck. That’s not therapy—that’s venting with a witness.

Building a container that feels safe, compassionate, and honest is key. We move at the pace of your nervous system, also known as working in trauma-informed way.

Some sessions go deep into the landscape of understanding, making connections, naming patterns, feeling things that have been pushed down for a long time. This often includes somatic/”felt sense” work. Other sessions are more practical. I’ll guide you in building skills, troubleshooting real situations, supporting you in figuring out what you want to say or do, and how to actually say and do the things. We follow what’s most alive and relevant to you. Yes, I bring in humor when it fits, because sometimes the most healing thing to do is to laugh at the absurdity of being human.

Embodiment is a signature element of my approach.

A key part of my approach is what I call compassionate straight talk. I’ll listen closely, hold your experience without judgment, and sit with you with what you’ve been carrying. And I’ll be honest with you, point out patterns you might not be able to see on your own, and offer direct feedback when it’s useful. Because insight matters, and so does what you actually do with it, both inside and outside of our sessions. What if you have ample insight, yet struggle to act on it? We’ll collaborate on ways of moving through the underlying sticky patterns to help you to start getting freer!

What you won’t find here: rigid formulas, cookie cutter approaches, or a therapist who’s more invested in her theoretical framework than in you.

What you will get is a space that’s genuinely curious and open, where nothing needs to be defended or explained away, and where the work is always in service of your actual life.

ABOUT

Bria Tavakoli

Integrative Sex + Relational Therapist in Boulder, Colorado

A bit about me:

I bring more than a clinical lens to this work. As the daughter of an immigrant and someone who left purity culture behind, I know firsthand how identity, faith, culture, and shame shape the way we move through the world and in relationships. These aren’t abstract concepts to me. They’re lived. I’ve done my own work, and I’m still doing it. That’s not a disclaimer, it’s a credential.

For nearly two decades, I’ve taught yoga and meditation, which shapes everything about how I work. Life and personal curiosity later led me to sacred sexuality studies, psychedelics, and eventually to clinical work.

The net result: I’m not just curious about what’s happening in your head; I’m interested in what’s happening in your whole self. Our work will support your nervous system, breath, and the places in your body where you hold the things you haven’t said yet. I’m committed to helping you unpack the ancestral and/or generational patterns that could be holding you back in life. When it’s useful, I bring mindfulness and somatic awareness directly into our sessions. I’m big on “compassionate straight talk” (I thank/blame my years in Texas and New York City for this). I love to weave humor into sessions as relevant.

Insight, awareness, and embodiment are cool, and where my approach differs is in the practical tools and frameworks I offer clients that they can (and do!) take into their daily lives to create actual positive changes.

My practice is sex-positive, kink-aware, LGBQTIA+-affirming, and sex-worker-friendly. If you’ve ever felt judged, pathologized, low-key or high-key shamed by a therapist or other practitioner for your desires, your identity, or your choices, that stops here. This is a space where all of it is welcome, and none of it needs to be defended or explained away. Ready to say the quiet part out loud? Let’s talk. Reach out for a free 15-20 minute consultation.
